PRIVATE: A MENTALITY THAT WILL COST YOU, AND I MEAN BIG $$$

“Instead of protesting and trying to change the world, first win the war of evil within yourself. To make the world a better place first do the things you have to do everyday. And do them- actually do them everyday. ” – Jordan Peterson

I found this image above by pure chance and the more I read it the more I love it because it so accurately reflects so many of my clients experiences in the gym and more so, my own. So today, I am going to use one of my clients as an example as I saw him go through this ladder to change and how its potentially saved him thousands of $$$ and given him more time.“I won’t do it”Matt is the brother of one of my very first clients. This client quickly found out during our time together, just how important good food, regular exercise (especially resistance training) and organization was to his health and life in general. He saw his brother and urged him weekly to come try out the gym. “I won’t do it”. I was told for several weeks, Matt just was not interested, couldn’t see the value in it. No chance.“I can’t do it”If you read Matt’s testimonial here, he say’s that he just could not picture himself as strong or muscular. Obviously just because he couldn’t picture it, does not mean it couldn’t happen, but change can be somewhat intimidating for us all and we create these excuses for ourselves. But at least now Matt is moving on from simply “I won’t do it” to reasons he believes he can’t.“I want to do it”Matt’s first trial session was a blast. I can barely remember it, but I do remember that small vibe of excitement and determination he gave off. Trial sessions are great because they make individuals aware of where they are at and gives them an idea of what they could achieve if they dedicated themselves to the process of change. Matt understood he wasn’t in the best place, but seeing what his brother had accomplished and knowing that only by doing something would be improve, he decided he wanted to try.“How do I do it?” and “I’ll try to do it”Matt and I started strong with three 1 on 1 session per week for the first couple of months. Matt had one character trait that really stands out when it comes to self improvement: dedication. He didn’t always feel like it, didn’t always follow the best advice, but he was there. Two steps forward one step back, he didn’t care as long as progress was made. Matt was determined to learn the process and get stuck in.“I can do it!”It took us about 2 weeks to get Matt’s shoulders happy enough to squat with weight on his back. Don’t assume because you can’t do something when you first try, that you won’t be able to after some time and effort. 6-7 months later, Matt was squatting 150kg for his first 1 rep max session. He can do it.“I will do it”It’s a lifestyle. Matt has built his own gym at home, cut his session with me down to one per week and got his girlfriend involved too. He’s made it part of his life and he’s all the better for it. Full time stressful job, managing a relationship and the rest of lifes challenges. But because he was committed to the process and making good eating and regular training part of his lifestyle in a way that suits him, Matt is able to continue making gains without it being a huge stress on his life. The sheer amount of lifestyle related diseases and money Matt is potentially saving by investing in his health is staggering. When we talk now, Matt always refers to his training with a smile. He looks back at his changes from only 12 months ago and says “Yes, I did it!”.If you simply won’t do exercise, it’s “not for me” you say, or something similar, can I encourage you to ask why you won’t do it and then maybe if you think you should and want to do it but don’t know how contact Upfront and I’ll be happy to answer any of your questions to see if I can help you out. Save money in future medical bills by investing in your well being today.
